What a Global Supply Chain Disruption Taught Me About Resilience

I remember the uncertainty when a global supply chain disruption affected one of our key suppliers.

Delivery timelines suddenly changed, costs became unpredictable and everyone wanted immediate answers.

At first, it felt like everything was beyond our control. Every update brought a new challenge, and sticking to the original plan was no longer an option.

Instead of focusing on what we couldn't change, we shifted our attention to what we could control. We communicated regularly with suppliers, explored alternative sourcing options, reviewed inventory levels and worked closely with internal stakeholders to adjust priorities.

It wasn't easy, but those small, deliberate actions made a significant difference. We minimized disruptions, kept critical operations running and most importantly, strengthened relationships with suppliers and colleagues through transparency and collaboration.

That experience taught me that resilience in procurement isn't about avoiding challenges; it's about responding to them with flexibility, preparation and a willingness to adapt.

Today, I see every disruption as an opportunity to improve processes, diversify suppliers and build stronger systems for the future.

So, the next time a supply chain challenge comes your way, ask yourself: Will you focus on the disruption, or will you focus on building resilience?
